The Power of the Spirit

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8

The pictures of the recent tornado damage in Joplin, MO are devastating. Terrible scenes of whole neighborhoods destroyed, a hospital ruined, cars crumpled in piles like toys and trees that have lost all their leaves and limbs. The death toll has risen to 116 making it the deadliest tornado is 60 years. Although wind is something that we cannot see we can definitely see where it has been and the results of its power.

The Spirit is like the wind. Although we cannot see the Spirit, that doesn’t mean that it does not exist. We can see the Spirit move and see its power work through the church and people. The Spirit contains more power than a tornado, however that power does not destroy lives, but it transforms lives. Let the power of God’s Spirit move through you today.

Prayer: Father, Son and Holy Spirit I pray for the people in Missouri whose lives have been changed by this tornado. Give them comfort and strength in this time. Allow me to be open to your Spirit so that your Spirit may move through me in powerful ways. Amen.

Faith Tip: Look around you today and notice the many ways that you can see or hear the wind moving and then begin to notice the many ways that you can sense the Spirit of God moving.
