He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. – Matthew 5:45
This morning we were greeted with a nice cover of clouds, a refreshing sprinkle of rain and cooler temperatures. Rain and clouds are a welcomed sight after the scorching temperatures we have endured the past few days.
As I was driving to the church this morning, I was thinking how rain can often be a good thing when it ushers in cooler temperatures and revives dry lawns and gardens. And rain can also be unwanted when it cancels a golf outing, a trip to the beach, in areas that have been inundated with flooding, or accompanies a devastating storm.
This understanding can help us gain deeper insight to Jesus teaching on God’s unconditional love. When Jesus said that God sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous, he was referring to both good and bad times. God loves us all unconditionally and what he gives us is not dependent upon anything we have done or not done. God’s love is unconditional and so his mercy, justice, grace and loving kindness rain down on everyone.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for your unconditional love. Thank you for the rain that falls in my life whether it be welcomed or unwanted. You know what I need and you always provide. Amen.
Faith Tip: Is there rain falling in your life today? Is it a shower of blessing or stormy weather? Whatever your circumstance, hold on to the truth that God is with you and will care for you through this time because of his unconditional love for you.
